The People Behind Three Women Press
Five years ago we began as three women with a goal: to publish great books that might not otherwise reach readers. We were writers, editors, marketers and saleswomen, determined to find those books that might slip between the cracks of the big houses. Of course more than a few wrinkles had to be ironed out as we all discovered what it was like to partner in more than just birthing a book, but in building a whole new realm.
Before too long, others heard of our dream and wanted to become involved. The partners changed a few times, and eventually we became one woman and a man. It didn’t matter, because the unifying factor is that we love great books – and want to get them into the hands of booksellers and readers.
Our debut novel, The Book Lover, was selected by the independent booksellers of the American Booksellers Association as a prestigious Indie Next Pick! The reviews were wonderful. (Check out ourPress page!) And the sales…pretty impressive for the debut novel of a new small press!
Then, just like in a good novel…things changed in surprising ways. The publishing world was suddenly in the midst of a revolution. Everyone in the book world was scrambling to figure out the future and we took a big pause. But to make a long story that would no doubt make a good book short…we are back! And we are more determined than ever to fulfill our original dream.
Michael Cassidy headed for New York City after college to launch his career in theatrical lighting. As this industry computerized, so did he, building on an early academic interest in automation. In 1988, he left stage lighting to become a full partner at Cassidy Cataloguing Services. As its Computer Specialist and Chief Financial Officer, he taught the company to grow and spread its wings. In 2007, Michael became the senior partner of the real estate holding company, GTWD LLC. His remarkable financial management of these two small businesses made it possible to create Three Women Press LLP.
Joni Lynn Cassidy
Joni Lynn Cassidy earned her Masters Degree in Library Science about the same time Michael headed for the Big City. After 6 years of traditional work in public and membership libraries, she founded Cassidy Cataloguing Services to provide contract cataloging to law and business libraries. Twenty-eight years later, the company is successfully working with publishers and law school libraries throughout the world. From 2003-2010, Joni taught “Cataloging and Technical Services” at five graduate library and information science schools in the New York/New Jersey area. In 2007, Joni became the junior partner of GTWD LLC. When Joni read the manuscript for “The Book Lover” she told Michael it was so beautifully written, it couldn’t be left unpublished. That moment gave birth to Three Women Press LLP.
